For a satisfied hyperthermic intraperitoneal chemotherapy (HIPEC) result, surgery is a key point. It is, there must be a satisfied cytoreduction surgery (CRS). CRS is not a regular operative procedure, it depends on the tumor growth and the intraperitoneal organ involved. In CRS, peritonectomy is the most important part. However, CRS, peritonectomy and HIPEC, are not included as a training course in a surgeon’s training program. In Wan-Fang Hospital, surgeons performing these procedures must be trained at the hospital where these procedures are routinely performed, in order to get a satisfied HIPEC result. Unfortunately, no whether CRS, peritonectomy or HIPEC, are not included in the National Health Insurance and must be done under self-pay. It also explains why these treatments are conducted by surgeons.
